The Addormentasuocere

The Addormentasuocere

The dessert you see in Italy is called “Addormentasuocere” which translated means to put the mother-in-law to sleep.
Oh my God! What kind of name is that!!!

It’s almonds, hazelnuts or peanuts covered in caramelized sugar.

A classic to buy at fairs, amusement parks and, now once upon a time, at the movies.

Their curious name comes from the fact that you usually don’t chew them, you can’t chew them because it’s a very hard dessert.

They are sweet and sugary bars, the only way to eat them is to let them melt in your mouth, and so you invite your mother-in-law to eat them.

The mother-in-law, who talks a lot, to eat them is forced to a prolonged silence that slowly makes her fall asleep.

And in your country what is the name of this dessert?
