From the Airport to the Center of Rome
One of the questions I receive from people who are planning to come to Rome is: How do I get to the center of Rome from the Airport?
Let’s start with the fact that Rome has 2 airports: Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA).
The largest in size is Fiumicino.
Landed at the airport you can come to Rome in various ways, it just depends on how much you want to spend.
I’ll start from the cheapest to get to the most expensive.
1 – walking … no I’m kidding
(however Google Maps says it would take about 6 hours, but surely you haven’t thought about the weight of luggage to pull behind you)
1 – By bus
Travel time: 1h/1h15m depending on the traffic
Destination : Rome Termini Central Station
Cost : 6€/7€ per person
There are several bus companies, with about 2 or 3 departures every hour (depending on the time of year). Tickets can be bought online or directly on the bus.
2 – by Train
Travel time 30m/40m
Destination : Roma Termini Central Station or Roma Tiburtina Station
Cost : 8€ – 14€ per person
Not affected by traffic problems, very convenient, 2 departures every hour.
Tickets can be bought online or from the automatic machines.
3 – by Taxi
Travel time : 1h/1h15m
Destination : Anywhere
Cost : to Rome Center 48€ (up to 4 people)
Just outside the Terminal there are a few places where you can call a cab that arrives in 5 minutes.
The convenience is obviously given by the fact that you arrive directly to your accommodation.
4 – with Cab or Uber
Travel time: 1h/1h15m
Cost : 50€ up to 3 people – 65€ up to 7 people
The driver waits for you outside the terminal with a sheet with your name and takes you to your destination.
From my point of view, chauffeur driven transportation is always the best solution, because having a person waiting for you and without any worries transporting you to your destination gives you a security that no one else can provide.
When you travel you must always think that some expenses serve to improve and optimize the trip.
