The Gianicolo Tour
The Gianicolo Tour: If you love walking in nature and stopping to admire the panoramic points, this is certainly the tour for you.
We will leave from Piazzale Giuseppe Garibaldi to discover the Gianicolo, the hill of Rome from which it is possible to admire the whole city.
You will have the opportunity to discover this historical and mythological place, a place of worship during the period of Ancient Rome and the scene of battles in 19th century Italy, a hill surrounded by greenery a stone’s throw from the historic district of Trastevere, from the Botanical Garden of Rome. and from Villa Doria Pamphili.
In this memorial of the Risorgimento, between avenues lined with Platani trees, we will admire the famous Passeggiata del Gianicolo from which you can enjoy one of the most evocative views of Rome and then we will witness the traditional cannon firing not far from the equestrian statue of Garibaldi.
The cannon shot was in fact introduced by Pius IX in 1847 as a signal for all the bells of the city to ring at the same time.
So be ready to plug your ears, but still rest assured, it’s safe!
Finally, you will see the Statue of Anita, Garibaldi’s adventurous companion whose story you will hear and you will also be able to admire one of the most beautiful fountains in Rome, the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola called by the Romans the “Fontanone”.
